Painted between 2014 and 2015, Devastation in Gaza is a work of witness and compassion, created in response to the bombing of Gaza during a period when Caroline Millott was living in Ireland.
The painting depicts a firefighter standing before smoke and flames, his hands covering his face in a moment of shock, exhaustion, and grief. The contrast between the bright yellow vest and the dark, burning background heightens the sense of chaos, while the figure’s covered face speaks to the emotional toll carried by those who respond to destruction.
